How To Drill a Drainage Hole

Many of our fiberclay pots can be used outdoors (check the product description) but do not have drainage holes as they are also intended for indoor use.

These planters require a drainage hole to ensure that plant roots are not left sitting in water which causes rot and deterioration and even death of the plant.

Here is how to drill a drainage hole:

  • Drill several holes in the bottom of the pot. Use an 8-10mm drill bit.
  • The number of holes depends on the size of the pot, the larger the pot the more should be added to allow effective drainage.
  • To prevent the drill from slipping, you can place duct tape on the spot where you want to drill.
  • If you place the planter directly on the surface, it is advisable to drill the holes in the side of the planter, approximately 5 to 10 centimeters above the surface.
