Many of our fiberclay pots can be used outdoors (check the product description) but do not have drainage holes as they are also intended for indoor use.
These planters require a drainage hole to ensure that plant roots are not left sitting in water which causes rot and deterioration and even death of the plant.
Here is how to drill a drainage hole:
- Drill several holes in the bottom of the pot. Use an 8-10mm drill bit.
- The number of holes depends on the size of the pot, the larger the pot the more should be added to allow effective drainage.
- To prevent the drill from slipping, you can place duct tape on the spot where you want to drill.
- If you place the planter directly on the surface, it is advisable to drill the holes in the side of the planter, approximately 5 to 10 centimeters above the surface.
