For no fuss or mess you can put the plant in the growing pot it arrives in straight inside a decorative one. This also allows allows excess water to be drained after watering.

For a good fit the opening (not diameter) and height of the new decorative pot need to be several centimetres greater than the current growing pot.

Remember to take into account tapering, as the internal height of a pot will be measured from the centre to the top but the sides will taper in on a rounded pot.

Watering

Bay in pots like good draining soil and to stay moist in Summer but the roots should not sit in water as this will lead to rot. In winter reduce watering. Bay planted in the ground only need watering for the first growing season or if there is a heatwave.

Temperature

Generally hardy to -5°C (23°F) but can withstand lower temperatures in sheltered positions.

Feeding

Feed with a general purpose garden feed in in spring and summer.

Top Tip

They can be clipped to stay a nice shape.
