It can take 8 years for wisteria to flower so buying one that has already flowered is a must for the more impatient gardeners among us.
Grafted rootstock means flowering in the first or second year you plant. These trellis frames are ideal for covering a section of wall.
Available in three colour varieties:
- Purple/Blue Flower (Sinensis Prolific)
- White (Floribunda Alba)
Best space & place
Grow wisteria against a wall or other strong structure, ideally in a south- or west-facing direction.
Watering & feeding
Wisteria is a hungry plant. Water and feed pot-grown wisterias weekly during the growing season, to encourage more flowers to bloom. In autumn, mulch with organic matter such as well-rotted horse manure or home-made compost.
Need to know
Prune wisteria twice a year, in August and February.
For no fuss or mess you can put the plant in the growing pot it arrives in straight inside a decorative one. This also allows allows excess water to be drained after watering.
For a good fit the opening (not diameter) and height of the new decorative pot need to be several centimetres greater than the current growing pot.
Remember to take into account tapering, as the internal height of a pot will be measured from the centre to the top but the sides will taper in on a rounded pot.
