These majestic leaved trees are perfect statement pieces in a pot. They bear large highly fragrant cream flowers in late summer.

Best space & place

Grow in moist, well-drained preferably neutral to acid soil in sun or part shade. Tolerates dry, alkaline soil.

When to water & feed
Magnolias in the ground need little attention once they’ve settled in, as long as they’re growing in suitable conditions. Trees grown in containers need regular watering and feeding during the growing season.

Need to know

Magnolias do best in full sun in a sheltered spot, so perfect for a south or west-facing entrance.

For no fuss or mess you can put the plant in the growing pot it arrives in straight inside a decorative one. This also allows allows excess water to be drained after watering.

For a good fit the opening (not diameter) and height of the new decorative pot need to be several centimetres greater than the current growing pot.

Remember to take into account tapering, as the internal height of a pot will be measured from the centre to the top but the sides will taper in on a rounded pot.
