For no fuss or mess you can put the plant in the growing pot it arrives in straight inside a decorative one. This also allows allows excess water to be drained after watering.

For a good fit the opening (not diameter) and height of the new decorative pot need to be several centimetres greater than the current growing pot.

Remember to take into account tapering, as the internal height of a pot will be measured from the centre to the top but the sides will taper in on a rounded pot.

Need to know

Medium light. Full sun will scorch the leaves. Keep indoors all year.

Water freely when in growth, keeping the soil moist, but not soggy. Apply a balanced liquid fertiliser two or three times during the growing season. Reduce watering in winter.

The leaves can consume a lot of moisture and so it is a very good idea to mist at home - in the nursery we regularly spray overhead. The base of the stems harden as the palm ages and mottle.

Need to know

The leaves can consume a lot of moisture and so it is a very good idea to mist at home - in the nursery we regularly spray overhead. The base of the stems harden as the palm ages and mottle slightly with black spots, this is perfectly natural.

Pollutant Absorption Credentials

The Areca Palm has been shown to help remove formaldehyde and Xylene from the air which can be given off by building materials, synesthetic fabrics, and some paints and varnishes, making it ideal for those who have recently decorated.
