Height: 150-180cm
Pot Size: 35cm
Decorative Pot Required (opening): 36cm+

For no fuss or mess you can place the plant in its growing pot (the pot it arrives in) inside a decorative one. This allows allows excess water to be drained after watering.

For a good fit the opening (not diameter) and height of the new decorative pot need to be several centimetres greater than the current growing pot. Here is how we measure and list pot sizes:

Remember to take into account tapering, as the internal height of a pot will be measured from the centre to the top but the sides will taper in a rounded pot.

We recommend using a liner to protect your decorative pot and prevent leaking (whether placing the nursery pot inside or repotting directly into the decorative pot).

Watering

Ceanothus are fairly drought tolerant and if planted in the ground, once established they should get most of the moisture they need from rainfall, except in very hot summers. If kept in a pot make sure it is free draining and reduce watering in the winter.

Temperature

May need winter protection in frost prone areas of the UK.

Feeding

Feed with a general purpose garden feed in in spring and summer.

Top Tip

Most dieback is caused by too much water or that the plant is too exposed to cold winds.

Ceanothus 'Yankee Point"

Californian Lilac

Ceanothus have become one of the most popular hedging plants in the warming UK climate for their abundance of blue flowers appearing from spring and carrying on through summer.

'Yankee Point' is one of the most popular varieties of Californian Lilac, for its abundance of mauve flower clusters which cover every inch of the plant in early spring and summer.

It is a compact evergreen shrub with finely toothed, glossy dark green leaves and can be grown as as spreading plant in the border or as in this case, trained up a trellis or support.
